Project Manager / Manufacturing Engineer Department: Engineering / Operations Reports To: Engineering Director Works Closely With: Production Manager, Engineering, Quality, Sales/Customer Service and Manufacturing SEE CARDSTON.COM Position Summary The Project Manager / Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for managing assigned customer projects from initial quotation and planning through manufacturing, quality control, packaging and final shipment. This position serves as a key link between Engineering and Production, ensuring that customer requirements, technical specifications, quality standards and manufacturing instructions are clearly defined, communicated and executed. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned projects, anticipate potential issues, coordinate the required resources and information, and ensure projects move efficiently through CARDSTON's manufacturing operation while meeting expectations for quality, schedule, cost and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Project Management • Participate in project analysis during the quotation and planning stages to identify manufacturing requirements, resources, timing, risks and technical considerations. • Develop and maintain detailed project plans from quotation through production and shipment. • Take ownership of assigned projects and ensure they are delivered on time, within scope, within budget and to required quality standards. • Coordinate internal departments, resources, suppliers and third-party vendors required for successful project execution. • Establish clear project scope, objectives, specifications, milestones and deliverables. • Ensure all required customer materials, specifications, artwork, data and technical information are received, understood and properly communicated. • Communicate directly with customers when clarification is required regarding supplied materials, specifications, numbering positions, MEM requirements or other project details. • Gather, document and distribute customer-specific quality-control requirements. • Track project progress and proactively identify schedule, technical, quality or resource issues that could affect successful completion. • Manage changes to project scope, schedule, specifications and costs using appropriate verification and approval processes. • Identify project risks and develop appropriate preventative or corrective actions. • Monitor project performance and communicate project status to management and other stakeholders. • Escalate significant issues promptly when management involvement or additional resources are required. • Maintain organized and comprehensive project documentation. • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, internal stakeholders, suppliers and third-party vendors. Production Coordination • Act as the primary liaison between Engineering and Production for assigned projects. • Translate engineering requirements into clear, practical manufacturing instructions for the Production Manager and production teams. • Participate in production meetings to communicate priorities, technical requirements, manufacturing objectives and project-specific considerations. • Confirm that Production has the required information, materials, tooling, files and instructions before manufacturing begins. • Participate in developing pack-out and manufacturing strategies, including pattern files, premixes, specialty card finishing, autographs, numbering and card-quality requirements. • Follow assigned projects through the various stages of manufacturing to ensure engineering and customer requirements are being properly executed. • Work with Production to identify and resolve manufacturing challenges before they affect quality or delivery. • Support Quality Control by maintaining awareness of product quality throughout the manufacturing process and promptly communicating concerns requiring review or corrective action. • Assist Production with optimizing available manufacturing resources, scheduling priorities and workflow when required. • Identify opportunities for employee training and skills development related to project or manufacturing requirements. • Assist in training team members on manufacturing best practices, equipment and project-specific processes. • Provide technical and logistical support to production personnel. • Observe manufacturing performance and recommend practical improvements to processes, methods, workflow and efficiency. Ownership & Accountability The Project Manager / Production Coordinator is expected to take full ownership of assigned projects. This includes ensuring that: • Requirements are clearly understood before production begins. • Responsibilities and deliverables are clearly communicated. • Required materials and information are available when needed. • Potential problems are identified early rather than after they affect production. • Engineering and Production remain aligned throughout the project. • Customer quality and technical requirements are consistently maintained. • Issues are followed through to resolution. • Projects remain on schedule and unnecessary production delays are avoided. • Management is informed promptly when significant risks or deviations arise. The objective is not simply to monitor a project, but to actively drive it to successful completion. Qualifications & Skills • Post-secondary education in engineering, manufacturing, project management or a related technical discipline is preferred. • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment is strongly preferred. • Strong project-management, planning and organizational skills. • Ability to understand and communicate technical and manufacturing requirements. • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities. • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Comfortable working directly with customers, suppliers, management and production personnel. • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and accuracy. • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where priorities may change quickly. • Demonstrated initiative, accountability and follow-through. • Strong computer skills and ability to work with project documentation, production information and related systems. Exigences
