Health & Safety Coordinator (12-Month Maternity Leave Contract)

About the Role Applied Industrial Flooring Canada is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to provide maternity leave coverage for a 12-month term. This role is responsible for supporting and maintaining the company's Health & Safety Management System, ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating training programs, conducting inspections, and promoting a strong safety culture across all branches.
Key Responsibilities Maintain and improve the company's Health & Safety Management System (ISO 45001 aligned). Ensure compliance with provincial health and safety regulations across Canada. Coordinate Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC/HSC) meetings and documentation. Track employee training, certifications, and renewal requirements. Coordinate safety training programs including WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, TDG, and Respirator Fit Testing. Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations. Support new hire safety orientations and PPE programs. Maintain safety records, reports, and regulatory documentation. Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports for management. Assist with internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, fire drills, and safety equipment inspections. Promote employee engagement and a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
Qualifications Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field. 2+ years of Health & Safety experience. Knowledge of Canadian Occupational Health & Safety legislation. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience with safety management systems and digital recordkeeping. Familiarity with ISO 45001, Corfix, or Zoho People is an asset. Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally.
