Role Description The Board Member role is a volunteer, on-site position located in Barrie, ON. Board Members provide strategic leadership, governance, and oversight to ensure CMHA Simcoe County fulfills its mission and operates in alignment with its values and legal responsibilities. Day-to-day responsibilities include attending regular board and committee meetings, reviewing organizational performance and financial reports, and contributing to policy development and strategic planning. Board Members collaborate with fellow directors and senior leadership to support risk management, resource stewardship, and organizational accountability. The role also involves representing CMHA Simcoe County in the community, championing mental health and addiction services, and supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. Qualifications Ability to provide strategic oversight, governance, and policy guidance, with experience in board or committee work considered an asset. Strong understanding of financial stewardship, including budgeting, financial statements, and risk management, or a willingness to develop these skills. Background or interest in mental health, addictions, social services, public health, or community-based organizations. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the ability to work respectfully with people of diverse identities and lived experiences. Effective communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to listen, ask questions, and make informed decisions. High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a commitment to confidentiality and organizational accountability. Availability to attend regular board meetings, participate in committee work, and engage in orientation and ongoing learning. Relevant professional or lived experience in areas such as law, finance, governance, clinical practice, human resources, fundraising, or community advocacy is an asset.
