About the role

DAL Projects has a long history of providing engineering consulting and project management services across multiple disciplines, including natural resource development, technical advisory services, and critical infrastructure.

Our services extend across First Nation and municipal communities as well as commercial and industrial clients to deliver innovative solutions with a strong commitment to support and collaboration. Specific to this role, the focus of the Project Designer will be on the telecommunications, electrical and civil industries.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the preparation of engineered drawings for various projects. Collaborate with technical professionals on multi-disciplinary projects. Assist in the preparation and design of civil, electrical and telecommunication systems. Prepare IFR drawings based on initial concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, standards documents, and joint-use agreements. Develop permit drawing sets for underground civil and aerial work, adhering to application standards set by permit-granting authorities and applicable codes and standards Prepare IFC drawings based on approved permits Prepare Bill of Materials reports and necessary data entry for clients. Leverage your expertise to enhance CAD processes and drafting efficiency continuously. Perform site visits to audit existing infrastructure and new installations, compiling as-builts based on findings. Support training of new DAL employees on drafting standards and daily practices. Meet with clients for site walkthroughs and to address potential issues. Assist the Design Manager with bid preparation and design redline drawings as needed. Develop design schedules and overall project timelines. Conduct material comparisons for equipment procurement. Assist in writing project proposals. Perform other duties as assigned.

Problem-Solving: The ability to analyze engineering challenges, offer solutions, and navigate complex issues. Attention to Detail: Meticulous handling of client information and keeping accurate documentation. Negotiation Skills: Savvy in negotiation to resolve conflicts and provide any needed information. Time Management: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines effectively. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to evolving surveying practices with industry changes and embrace new technologies or methodologies. Ethical Standards: Upholding ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.

Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience in the consulting engineering industry. Knowledge of industry standards and specifications. Knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial engineering standards and regulatory requirements. Ability to work independently without supervision. Strong time management skills to meet deadlines. Highly organized and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail. Proficient in basic word processing and record-keeping. Adaptable computer skills with the ability to research information online from various sources. Willingness to learn new technologies. Ability to read and interpret drawings and project-related documents. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD software. Shortlisted candidates will complete a skills test after the first interview.

Education Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferred) Civil / Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma (preferred)

Experience Engineering consulting: 2 years (required) Conditions of Employment Criminal Background Check required for secure sites. Valid Class 5 license and clean driving record. Ability to travel to sites occasionally (up to 25%).

Pay starting from $65,000 per year.

This position is based in Oak Bluff, Manitoba, approximately 10 km outside Winnipeg city limits. There is no bus service to or from Oak Bluff.
