About the role
About Exchanger Industries Limited Exchanger Industries Limited (EIL) is Canada's leading provider of custom heat transfer solutions. From our Alberta operations, we design and manufacture high-quality Shell & Tube heat exchangers, air coolers, and ASME-code pressure vessels for energy and industrial customers across Canada and around the world. We're a close-knit team that takes engineering excellence seriously, treats customer success as the goal, and would rather get the details right the first time than fix them later.
About this role This role needs two things that don't usually show up in the same person. The first is real technical depth, the kind where you can open a fabrication drawing, read it properly, cross-check it against the BOM and the estimate, and catch discrepancies before they become problems on the shop floor. The second is the relationship skill to make suppliers want to work with us, and to keep every internal team (project management, engineering, drafting, production, finance) pulling in the same direction.
As our Senior Supply Chain Specialist, you'll own project purchasing end-to-end: turning requirements into purchase orders, getting the right materials in on schedule and to ASME code, and ensuring what arrives is exactly what we ordered. It's a hands-on, individual-contributor seat; you're the link between our global supplier base and nearly every team in the building. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain, you'll work on custom, project-driven builds where no two jobs are quite the same.
If you're a buyer who genuinely enjoys the technical side and the people side of procurement, this is built for you.
What you'll do Run full-cycle project purchasing: translate requirements and BOMs into purchase orders, then expedite to keep materials arriving on schedule Read fabrication and engineering drawings, and verify material grades, dimensions, specifications and quantities before issuing a PO Cross-check BOMs against drawings and estimates, catching discrepancies before they reach manufacturing Buy to ASME code and material-conformance requirements, certificates, traceability, approved sources Run RFQs and award work by balancing conformance, price and lead time, not just lowest cost Develop, qualify and manage suppliers, and monitor vendor performance Act as the hub between suppliers and project management, engineering, drafting, production and finance Work day to day in our ERP (Microsoft Dynamics) to keep purchasing accurate and visible
What you bring Several years of full-cycle procurement or buying experience, ideally in manufacturing, fabrication, or a heavy-industry environment The ability to read engineering and fabrication drawings and work confidently from a bill of materials Familiarity with ASME code or material conformance (certs, traceability, approved sources) - or the aptitude and appetite to grow into it Strong RFQ, sourcing and supplier-negotiation skills, with sound judgment on cost, quality and lead time ERP fluency (experience with Microsoft Dynamics is an asset) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you build trust with vendors and internal teams alike Sharp attention to detail and real satisfaction in getting orders right the first time
Nice to have Experience buying for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or other custom-fabricated equipment Direct Microsoft Dynamics experience A supply chain designation (SCMP, CSCP, or equivalent)
Work environment This is a hybrid role based out of our Calgary / Fort Saskatchewan area operations, with periodic travel to suppliers. It's a fast-paced, project-driven custom manufacturing environment where priorities move quickly and the work is genuinely varied.
What we offer A competitive salary, annual bonus, matched retirement savings, and support for your professional development, plus the chance to do hands-on, high-impact work on a small, capable team where what you do is visible and matters.
What we value — RISE Our values shape how we work together every day: Respect and Safety First, Integrity in Action, Seek Growth, and Excel as a Team. We hire people who are curious, speak up, and want to make the work around them better.
How to apply If this sounds like the kind of work you want to do, we'd like to hear from you. Apply through LinkedIn with your resume, a short note on a sourcing or supply chain challenge you're proud of solving is always welcome, but not required.
Exchanger Industries Limited is an equal-opportunity employer. We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
